Director Joe Wright’s story of Winston Churchill’s rise to power both as Prime Minister and as architect of the push against the imminent, inevitable Nazi invasion of Britain in WWII is absolutely gripping. This beautifully shot film is driven by extraordinary performances, including Kristin Scott Thomas as Churchill’s wife Clementine, and Gary Oldman, who is brilliant as Churchill: bombastic, humorous, eloquent—and unstoppable. UK 2017, 114min. Director Joe Wright
