New Mexico salesman Jimmy Munson (Guy Pearce) is finally on the road to a solid, happy life, with a beautiful girlfriend (Piper Perabo), a loyal best friend (William Fichtner) and a promising new business plan to sell restored jukeboxes to bars across the country. Finding himself with car trouble in a remote desert town one day, Jimmy passes the time getting a psychic reading from Vacaro (J.K. Simmons). The psychic becomes alarmed during the reading and refuses to finish it or say anything more than that Jimmy won't survive beyond the first snow of the year. Strange occurrences follow, giving Jimmy good cause to change his initial skepticism into worry and then fear. As his distress becomes more tangible, he finds himself coming face to face with past mistakes, and realizes he will have to go to great lengths to alter his future, atone for the past and survive the first snow.
